013 FXUS63 KLBF 210513 AFDLBFArea Forecast Discussion National Weather Service North Platte NE 1213 AM CDT Sun Sep 21 2025
.KEY MESSAGES...
- Isolated to scattered chances for showers and thunderstorms into early next week
- Brief warm-up Sunday and Monday, before a cool down by Tuesday
&&
.SHORT TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/... Issued at 401 PM CDT Sat Sep 20 2025
A warm front moves northward on Sunday warming temperatures into the upper 70s to low 80s, which is around 5 to 10 degrees above normal. The warmest temperatures will be across western Nebraska on the nose of the thermal gradient where highs will reach the low 80s. There will be a weak trof across the Nebraska Panhandle, but at this time weak forcing and limited instability will keep the likelihood of shower/thunderstorm development low and thus have kept PoPs out of the forecast for Sunday.
&&
.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/... Issued at 401 PM CDT Sat Sep 20 2025
Attention then turns to Monday as a shortwave trof moves in from the Rockies along with a sfc front. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible, with the best chance of storms in the late afternoon/evening timeframe. There is the potential for strong to severe thunderstorms along with heavy rainfall as both have been outlooked by SPC and WPC. Expect thunderstorms to develop along the sfc front, with the greatest threat for severe thunderstorms generally along and east of HWY 83 with the environment ahead of the front having 0 to 3km CAPE values around 1000 J/kg and deep-layer shear around 25 to 35 kts. After the front pushes through Monday/Tuesday temperatures will cool into the 60s for Tuesday, then moderate into the 70s for the remainder of the week.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z MONDAY/... Issued at 1213 AM CDT Sun Sep 21 2025
VFR conditions are expected to prevail across western and north central Nebraska tonight and tomorrow. A band of mid to high cloud is currently tracking across the region, with ceilings remaining mostly VFR across the region. The exception is with a band of showers in the Panhandle, where brief MVFR conditions are observed. Showers are expected to continue breaking up over the next few hours, with no impacts to the KLBF or KVTN terminals expected. Winds remain light throughout the TAF period, generally under 10 knots. Skies begin to clear by the morning, with additional high clouds moving in to the region in the evening.
