.UPDATE... Issued at 429 AM CDT Sat Sep 6 2025

The cold front is entirely through Middle Tennessee but convection is ongoing across the mid state, with quite a lot of showers and some storms still left to come through. Of course, the lingering convection is elevated owing to a stable surface-based layer, so the severe potential has dropped off to nothing. The latest HRRR suggests that the activity should mostly be gone by 18Z as the atmosphere dries out, and a lot of us may even see some partial sunshine by this afternoon. Temperatures today are going to be considerably cooler -- close to 20F cooler than yesterday in some spots -- and tomorrow`s highs won`t be much warmer than today`s, in spite of full sunshine expected on Sunday.

.SHORT TERM... (Tonight through Sunday Night) Issued at 1119 PM CDT Fri Sep 5 2025

A strong upper level low is set up over southern Ontario dropping a cold front south into Middle TN. As the trough digs early Saturday morning we will see the front stall out over the region with periods of showers and thunderstorms ahead of it. The thunderstorm activity will be elevated keeping the severe risk very low. The front will start to drop south just before daybreak and we will see a round of widespread rain with some embedded thunderstorms. The front along with the widespread activity will continue to move through the area during the morning hours. Instability will remain elevated keeping the severe risk near zero.

A few showers may linger over the Plateau into the afternoon, otherwise dry and quiet weather will start to settle in. Highs on Saturday will be much cooler only making it into the low to mid 70s. Quiet and pleasant weather can be expected for the second half of the weekend as high pressure builds in from the Plains. Sunday temperatures will warm some pushing back into the mid 70s to lower 80s for highs.

.LONG TERM... (Monday through next Saturday) Issued at 1119 PM CDT Fri Sep 5 2025

Quiet weather is going to continue into the week as high pressure slowly slides east and upper level ridging amplifies to our west. With the ridge building to our west we will see warming temperatures with highs starting in the mid 70s to lower 80s and warming into the mid 80s to lower 90s by Thursday. Towards the end of the week the upper level ridge will push east over us keeping the hot weather in place. No rain is expected throughout the week.
