.DISCUSSION... Issued at 149 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025
Clear skies and occasionally breezy north winds prevailed across the local area this afternoon. Despite a cool front crossing the forecast area early this morning and brining a shift in winds, temperatures still managed to climb to near 80 degrees across the region, with even some lower 80s noted across north central Kansas.
For tonight, expect clear conditions to continue with winds diminishing rapidly during the evening hours, before shifting and becoming southerly across the region on Sunday. This switch in winds will help to advect slightly warmer air north across the local area, and correspondingly bumped afternoon temperatures couple of degrees for Sunday afternoon - into the mid to upper 80s for most locations.
Expect very similar conditions to then repeat across the local area for much of next week with variable high level cloud cover, breezy southerly winds and above normal temperatures each afternoon (generally peaking in the mid-80s most days through the end of next week). This will be in large part due to an upper level ridge that will remain in place across the region for much of next week, eventually giving way to a west coast trough and weak cold front next weekend. This could bring a small chance for rain back to the area next weekend along with a modest cooldown into the mid/upper 70s...although these temperatures will still remain above normal as seasonal norms are rapidly falling across the local area this time of year. Looking at CPC outlooks, this mild pattern (with above normal temperatures) could linger all the way into late October as both the 8-14 day outlook and 3-4 week outlooks lean warm across the center of the country.
