.DISCUSSION... Issued at 1159 PM CDT Sun Sep 28 2025

An upper ridge over the interior eastern states eventually expands to encompass much of the eastern CONUS by Thursday except for a modest upper trof persisting over the northern Gulf coast states. Tropical Storm Imelda meanwhile moves across the central and northwestern Bahamas then turns and moves away from the southeastern U.S. states. Please see the National Hurricane Center for the latest information on Imelda. A surface ridge builds over much of the eastern states through midweek and promotes a dry northeasterly deep layer flow over the forecast area. Have continued with a dry forecast through Wednesday, with just a small chance for rain returning to near the Alabama coast on Thursday.

The modest upper trof over the region evolves into a broad upper low on Friday and lingers into Saturday before weakening to a weak upper trof on Sunday. While a surface ridge persists over the region, a surface low or surface trof may develop over the north central Gulf by Saturday which would support an increasing trend in rain chances. From Friday into Sunday, have gone with small pops for the coastal areas on Friday trending to slight chance to chance pops for much of the area by Sunday. Highs on Monday will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s then trend steadily cooler through Friday to range from 80 to 85, with similar values for Saturday and Sunday. Lows Monday night and Tuesday night range from the mid 60s well inland to near 70 at the coast then trend cooler through Thursday night to range from around 60 inland to the mid 60s at the coast. Overnight lows then moderate a bit through Saturday night to range from the mid 60s inland to near 70 at the coast, with similar values for Sunday night. A low risk of rip currents is expected through Wednesday night, then a moderate risk follows for Thursday. A high risk of rip currents is anticipated for Thursday night through Friday night. /29
