The fog may dissipate beforehand as wly 925 mb winds increase to 20-30 kts as the sfc trough over ern MN moves into nwrn WI and se MN by 12Z. The stationary front near the IL border and far ne IA will quickly develop newd across srn WI this morning with swly sfc winds becoming established. The sfc trough will quickly move across the nrn Great Lakes today with the trailing cold front moving into locations nw of Madison by late afternoon then moving across the remainder of srn WI this evening. A dry frontal passage is expected as the airmass is too dry.

.LONG TERM... Issued 403 AM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Sunday night through Friday:

Ridging in the polar jet looks to remain prevalent over our region through the entire LONG TERM forecast period, favoring dry and quiet weather. GEFS QPF plumes indicate that the soonest we could see the ridge break down and mentionable rain chances re-enter the forecast is around next weekend, and even then, it`s not a particularly strong signal. As such, we have < 10% precip chances thru the week unless things change.

This same pattern favors above normal temperatures through the period, with predominantly light east winds keeping lakeshore areas cooler (in some cases, 3 to 7 degrees cooler than the values I`ll discuss below). Daytime highs around the low 80s for inland areas early in the week, with a lull in the heat possible mid week and onwards as strong high pressure over southern Canada continues the easterly winds. We currently have mid to upper 70s in the forecast to account for this, which is still 10 degrees above seasonal norms (upper 60s). Lower quartiles for high temperatures (using GEFS) are closer to 70 degrees mid week, which would still be 3 degrees above normal. On the bright side, dewpoints look to remain in the 50s for much of the period, with around 60 dews for daytime hours early in the week, drying out closer to 50 degrees on average thru the rest of the week. In other words, not too much humidity.

Modest southerly winds will develop this afternoon ahead of an approaching cold front from the west. The dry cold front will pass this evening from north to south across the lake with winds shifting to northerly.
