.DISCUSSION... Issued at 303 AM CDT Sun Sep 28 2025
Early this morning, water vapor satellite imagery continues to show the cutoff mid/upper low meandering across the Desert Southwest with an elongated deep layer trough draped across the Appalachians and into the eastern Gulf. In between these features, fairly stout mid/upper ridging continues to build over the southern and central plains.
With this pattern expected to remain in place generally over the next week or so, little to no precipitation is expected across the area over the next 7 days. Additionally, the aforementioned mid/upper ridge will support slightly above normal temperatures today, with a many locations likely experiencing highs in the mid to upper 80s. A couple of locations hitting 90 can`t be ruled out. A weak cold front and increasing cloud cover will help to bring temperatures back down closer to average with highs in the low to mid 80s and lows in the upper 50s to low 60s. Temperatures will remain quite consistent during the work week with little variation in the forecast. A couple weak shortwave troughs coming off the Rockies towards the latter portion of the week may induce some surface pressure falls across the High Plains. As such, a tighter pressure gradient would likely develop, and a couple of breezy afternoons are possible late next week, though this may just be confined to western and central Kansas. Still though, light to somewhat breezy southerly winds will be another constant in the forecast over the next 7 days.
