.SYNOPSIS... Issued at 313 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

H5 analysis this morning had an area of closed low pressure centered just northwest of Yuma Arizona. At trough extended south of this feature into Baja California. This area of low pressure was south of a low amplitude ridge which extended from the Pacific NW into eastern Montana. Further east, a trough of low pressure was located over the southern Appalachian and extended south into the northern Gulf. High pressure was located off the coast of the eastern CONUS and was centered near Bermuda. At the surface this afternoon, high pressure was centered over south central South Dakota. Skies were clear and winds were light from the east or northeast. Temperatures as of 2 PM CT ranged from 71 degrees at Ainsworth, to 76 degrees at Gordon and North Platte.

.SHORT TERM /THROUGH MONDAY/... Issued at 313 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Surface high pressure will build east into the upper Mississippi Valley overnight. This will allow southerly winds to persist overnight across the area. The combination of a warmer airmass and light winds tonight, will lead to warmer min temps compared to what occurred earlier today. Lows tonight will range from the upper 40s to lower 50s with the coolest readings in the Platte River Valley. The upper level low, currently over southern California, will migrate east across Arizona Sunday. Downstream of this trough, a surface trough will deepen from eastern Wyoming south to the front range of Colorado. East of this feature and west of high pressure, located over eastern Iowa, a tightening pressure gradient will develop across the forecast area Sunday afternoon, leading to breezy southerly winds across the area. The inherited forecast has gusts up to 25 MPH Sunday afternoon. With the latest NAM Bufkit soundings indicate gust potential up to around 30 MPH Sunday afternoon, will give a 2 to 4 MPH "boost" in winds this afternoon`s forecast package. Winds will be slow to diminish Sunday evening, thanks to a continuation of a decent pressure gradient across the area. Lows Sunday night will be mild for this time of year with readings generally in the lower to middle 50s. Looking at the 12z HRRR and 12z NAM12 deterministic solns this morning, both solns develop an isolated cell or two across western and northern portions of the forecast area Sunday night. With a zero percent chance of measurable pcpn. in the latest NBM ensemble and no support from the WARW and GFS solns this morning, will continue with a dry forecast.

.LONG TERM /MONDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/... Issued at 313 PM CDT Sat Sep 27 2025

Broad southwesterly flow aloft will persist across the Rockies and high plains this week. Weak disturbances will ride this flow with the threat for precipitation off to the west of the forecast area. The deterministic GFS and ECMWF solns try to develop some light precipitation midweek across the western forecast area. This notion is not supported by the latest GFS and EC ensembles which show little to no members with measurable qpf midweek. With this in mind, the dry NBM forecast looks on track. As for temperatures the latest NBM ensemble forecast has very little spread in high temps with its members next week with daily highs centered right around 80 degrees. After dry conditions for the work week, the next threat for precipitation arrives Friday night into Saturday as the persistent trough over the western CONUS migrates east. There is support from ensemble members for measurable precipitation Saturday, however the NBM ensemble only has a ~30 percent chance of measurable pcpn. across the area.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z MONDAY/... Issued at 1215 AM CDT Sun Sep 28 2025

VFR conditions are expected to prevail through Sunday night across western and north central Nebraska. Winds strengthen from the south Sunday afternoon, with widespread gusts of 25 to 30kts expected.

An increasing low level jet into Sunday night will lead to southerly LLWS across much of the Sandhills and southwest Nebraska into early Monday morning.
