.SYNOPSIS... Showers exit the coast around daybreak followed by increasing sunshine today and it will be quite warm and a bit humid. .NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Key Messages:

* Rather warm and a bit humid with increasing sunshine today * Clear and comfortably cool tonight

Northern extent of showers have expanded into RI and SE MA early this morning as a sharper mid level tough axis to the west has allowed showers to lift a further north. Already seeing an eastward trend in the rain shield and expect the showers to exit the Cape/Islands around daybreak as weak low pres moves offshore. Clouds will then give way to increasing sunshine from west to east today as the column dries out. Rather warm day expected with 925 mb temps warming to 18-20C which will support highs 80-85F, except mid-upper 70s near the south coast with SW winds in place. Elsewhere, winds will become west around 10 mph this afternoon with potential for some gusts to 15-20 mph as boundary layer is well mixed. Dewpoints will be mostly in the upper 50s to lower 60s this afternoon.

High pres builds into the region tonight leading to clear skies and light to calm winds. After a warm day, good radiational cooling will allow low temps to drop into the 50s, with some upper 40s possible in portions of the CT valley. Patchy late night radiation fog may develop.

.SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/... Key Messages:

* Continued warm and dry Mon and Tue, but less humid * Turning cooler Tue afternoon near the coast with wind shift to NE

High pres overhead on Monday which will be the warmest day of the work week. Highs will reach upper 70s to near 80, but a bit cooler along the coast as sea-breezes develop. It will be much less humid with dewpoints dropping into the upper 40s and 50s. Then on Tue, northern stream trough will push a cold front to the south by the afternoon with wind shift to NE. Temps should reach well into the 70s as best low level cold advection is delayed until Tue night. But it does turn cooler along the coast in the afternoon as winds shift to NE behind the front.

Sunshine may give way to some increasing high clouds from the south Mon afternoon into Tue well north of what will likely become Tropical Storm or Hurricane Imelda off the SE coast.

&&

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/... Key Messages:

* Trending much cooler Wed and Thu, then a warming trend begins Fri with above normal temps returning next weekend

* Dry weather continues into the weekend

* Hurricane Humberto stays well offshore, but will likely bring high surf and dangerous rip currents to coastal areas around the middle of next week

Large high pres builds south from Canada through the period which will bring an extended period of dry weather. The column is quite dry with PWATs well below normal so expect sunny days and mostly clear nights into the weekend. But we may see some ocean effect clouds and low risk for a few showers over Cape Cod Wed night as potent shortwave moves southward from Maine, passing just east of SNE. Also, gusty winds NE winds will develop along the coast Wed into Thu. Gradient tightens between high pres to the north and Hurricane Humberto on Wed, then a secondary surge of wind Wed night into Thu with passing shortwave to the east.

Much cooler airmass settles southward across SNE Wed and Thu. Below normal temps expected with coolest temps expected Wed night into Thu night, with lows dropping into the 30s and 40s with highs Thu upper 50s and lower 60s. Best chance for some frost away from the coast will be Thu night as the high builds overhead. Then a nice warming trend develops Fri into the weekend as upper ridging moves back into New Eng. Temps should recover to near normal on Fri and back into the 70s next weekend.

Hurricane Humberto will track well to the south and east of New Eng around midweek but will bring increasing swell leading to high surf and dangerous rip currents for SNE beaches, especially along the south coast. Surf will be increasing on Tue with the peak of the high surf and dangerous rip currents on Wed. High surf will likely linger into Thu but should be diminishing by then.
