Area Forecast Discussion...UPDATED National Weather Service Jackson MS 955 AM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025

...New MESOSCALE UPDATE...

.MESOSCALE UPDATE... Issued at 938 AM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025

Mid morning satellite imagery showed the circulation around an upper level trough over our CWA but also a disturbance along the Mississippi Gulf coast. Models suggest this disturbance will help develop a few showers and thunderstorms this afternoon over our southern zones. Local radars already showed scattered thunderstorms moving west northwest over southeast Louisiana. Otherwise, surface ridging across our CWA from the northeast will help keep drier air across our CWA and allow temperatures to top out a degree or two above normal. /22/

.DISCUSSION... Issued at 238 AM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025

Today and Tonight...A troughing pattern over much of the eastern half of the United States will maintain northwest flow aloft across the region today. This, in addition to northeast to easterly flow around high pressure at the surface centered across the northeast United States, will keep an overall slightly drier airmass in place across the forecast area today. Highs will be a touch warmer today compared to Monday, as they range from the middle 80s to around 90.

A weak disturbance along the central gulf coast could bring a stray shower or storm to the Pine Belt during the afternoon hours, but the majority of the CWA will remain dry today. Any convection that indeed develops will dissipate late in the afternoon. This will result in quiet conditions tonight. Lows tonight will likewise be a touch warmer as they range from the low to middle 60s. /19/

Wednesday through Sunday...Persistent clear conditions are expected through the rest of the period. Ridging pattern will migrate towards the southeast CONUS, causing high temperatures to start in the upper 80s/near 90s, reaching the mid/upper 90s by the end of the forecast period. Overnight lows are expected to range in the 70s. Little (less than 5%) to no rain chances are expected for the remainder of the period. /SW//KP/

.AVIATION... (12Z TAFS) Issued at 615 AM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025

VFR flight categories will prevail at area TAF sites over the next 24 hours. A weak disturbance along the gulf coast could yield an isolated shower or storm at namely KHBG or KPIB this afternoon, but overall coverage remains too low to include in this 12Z TAF package. Winds will increase to between 5-8 knots with an easterly component by late morning. /19/
