Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Gray ME 130 AM EDT Mon Sep 8 2025

.SYNOPSIS... High pressure will remain in control of our weather through most of the week. The daytime temperatures will be warm with fair weather and the overnights will be cool. There may even be some low to mid 30s and frost for the northern valleys tonight. There will also be another extended stretch of dry weather, with no rain anticipated through next weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/... High pressure will settle into the forecast area today with seasonable temperatures, fair weather (except for some occasional BKN diurnal CU), and a light northwest flow. A seabreeze will bring onshore winds at the coast this afternoon.

&&

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/... Good radiational cooling conditions are expected tonight. It`s the time of year we start thing about frost up north. Conditions look favorable for out better radiators in northern NH and northern Oxford County ME to get down into the lower to mid 30s tonight. Therefore a frost advisory has been issued there. Elsewhere, cool and fair weather is expected overnight.

Fair weather continues Tuesday with high pressure holding on.

&&

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/... Key Message: Large areas of high pressure dominate the weather and lead to largely dry conditions for the area.

Impacts: Dry weather will lead to maintaining or expanding drought conditions.

Forecast Details: High pressure center drifts east thru Tue but remains in control of the area. Guidance is not as cool as Mon night...but it still looks favorable for radiational cooling and valley fog. What looks to be a dry frontal passage occurs Wed...with reinforcing high pressure building southeast for the remainder of the week. Temps look to be similar both during the day and overnight and the NBM looked to have a good handle on that.

The main story however is that it does not look like any rain will fall for this period. Despite the rain over the last two days that will likely maintain or expand the current drought conditions across the forecast area.

&&

.AVIATION /03Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... Short Term...Early morning fog and stratus (mainly owing to the rainfall and thunderstorms from Saturday) will burn off early on resulting in mainly VFR conditions after 12 or 13z. A seabreeze will bring onshore flow this afternoon albeit light. Valley fog is once again expected tonight with VFR conditions on Tuesday.

Long Term...Predominately VFR conditions thru the extended. Seabreezes are likely during the day...so coastal terminals will see a wind shift to onshore during the afternoon. Large area of high pressure will lead to strong cooling overnight and valley fog developing. HIE and LEB are likely to see overnight IFR or lower conditions for most nights thru the week.

&&

.MARINE... Short Term...High pressure will settle over the waters today and Tuesday with light winds and relatively tranquil seas. Winds go locally onshore this afternoon with a seabreeze.

Long Term...Winds and seas expected to remain below SCA thresholds. Weak pressure gradient will promote seabreezes during the day with winds turning onshore.
