.DISCUSSION...through Tuesday.

Our well-advertised Pacific system continues to slowly creep inland over the next several days. Strongest winds arrive this afternoon, particularly across northwest Arizona. Given how winds performed yesterday, and the expectation of stronger gusts tomorrow, a Wind Advisory has been issued for Mohave County with gusts up to 45 mph. Additionally, a Lake Wind Advisory has been issued for Lakes Mead and Mohave. Both advisories run from 10 AM to 7 PM. Winds are forecast to weaken later this week as the low moves farther inland. Beyond the winds, the other weather of note is the temperatures as the cooling trend continues. By Thursday/Friday, highs are forecast to be 8-12 degrees below normal, providing a nice taste of early Fall. Precipitation-wise, much of the area remains dry, but there are 10-30% chances of showers/storms in the Sierra and Esmeralda County through Friday.

Speaking of our northwestern areas, wildfire smoke from the Garnet Fire continues to settle into the Owens Valley and Esmeralda County. Fortunately, it does not appear to be as dense as previous nights, with Bishop Airport currently reporting 7 mile visibility (compared to 3-4 miles this time yesterday). This seems to be due to reduced fire activity, and will hopefully be a continuing trend. Wildfire smoke will be possible each night until Friday when northwesterly flow kicks in. Smoke density will be dictated by afternoon fire behavior.

.AVIATION...For Harry Reid...For the 12Z Forecast Package...South to southwest winds will occur through most of the day and be gusty at times. This morning, look for winds to be around 10-15kts with gusts 20-25kts which should last into this afternoon. There is moderate confidence that we could see wind gusts between 25- 30kts at times between 22z-02z before winds start to diminish. Uncertainty returns this evening if winds will diminish with gusts ending or if west-southwest winds gust to 25KT will continue at times overnight. VFR and dry conditions will prevail through the period.

For the rest of southern Nevada, northwest Arizona and southeast California...For the 12Z Forecast Package...Some visibility reduction due to smoke is expected through this morning in the Owens Valley and there is moderate confidence that visibilities will drop to 5SM or less. If it does, improving conditions are expected after 18Z when southeast winds return. There is a slight chance of thunderstorms in the Sierra this afternoon, but impacts near KBIH are not expected. Otherwise, VFR conditions expected across the region. South to southwest winds return later this morning through the afternoon with gusts 20-25KT across the region through 03z with winds then decreasing to less than 10KT overnight. Gusts to around 25KT may persist in the Western Mojave Desert around KDAG late this evening and overnight.
