.DISCUSSION...
The rest of today through next Thursday...
Isolated showers and thunderstorms, generally east of Billings, will continue through the evening as energy spins around the low over the Dakotas. Then, conditions turn warmer and mostly dry into the weekend under weak ridging.
The next best chance of precipitation arrives Sunday as a disturbance and associated cold front tracks across the region late Sunday. Models continue to shift the timing of the disturbance later, however, increased atmospheric moisture (PWATs around 120-140% of normal) is expected to move in over the western mountains by Sunday afternoon, allowing a 30-50% chance of showers and thunderstorms over the western mountains and foothills for the afternoon hours. Sunday evening into Monday morning, the chance of showers and thunderstorms increases to 40-60% for much of the region. In the mountains, overnight temperatures will fall below freezing and allow light snow (20% chance of more than 1 inch) over the highest peaks.
For Tuesday and Wednesday, ridging builds in and allows warmer and mostly dry conditions to return. By Thursday, there are signs of the ridge beginning to break down although the details are still uncertain.
High temperatures will be in the 70s Friday, increasing to upper 70s to mid 80s for the weekend. Behind the front, Monday will be near normal, with highs in the mid 60s to low 70s. Then, as the ridge builds in, highs will increase to 70s to low 80s for the middle of the week. Archer
