.DISCUSSION... Issued at 327 PM CDT Tue Oct 7 2025
A quiet remainder to the work week is expected across the region. Surface high pressure is currently settling into the area as our most recent weather system continues to track off to the northeast. That being said, a weak disturbance is resulting in scattered cumulus and weak radar echoes early this afternoon. This activity is not expected to result in any precipitation. A dry airmass in the sub-cloud layer should prevent any of this precipitation from reaching the ground. Otherwise, cool temperatures continue this afternoon as highs top out in the 60s. Calm winds and clear skies overnight will result in excellent radiational cooling into the lower 40s. Very shallow and patchy fog may develop in some locations. River valleys and southern counties that received the most rainfall recently are more likely to see fog development.
Our surface high pressure moves off to the east tomorrow. As this occurs, southerly surface flow and a building mid-level ridge begin to influence our weather pattern. This promotes a gradual warming trend through the remainder of the work week. Highs approach the 70s on Wednesday, climb into the mid 70s by Thursday, before approaching the 80s by Friday. Alongside this warming trend, continued dry weather is anticipated. This is despite weak disturbances through midweek as limited moisture keeps precipitation chances nil.
Heading into this weekend, our weather pattern begins to change. A digging trough takes shape over the western CONUS towards the end of this weekend. Several shortwave disturbances are forecast to round this trough and lift northeast into the central and northern Great Plains beginning this weekend and continuing into early next week. At the moment, the main brunt of these systems may remain north of the area. Despite this, one can count on cooler temperatures and the return of precipitation chances during this time.
