Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Tallahassee FL 135 AM EDT Fri Sep 19 2025

...New NEAR TERM, SHORT TERM, LONG TERM, AVIATION, MARINE, FIRE WEATHER, HYDROLOGY...

.NEAR TERM... (Today and tonight) Issued at 132 AM EDT Fri Sep 19 2025

A weak upper level shortwave trough north of the area combined with precipitable water values around 1.5 inches may lead to isolated coverage of pop-up showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. We saw pop-up activity on Thursday afternoon across our northern counties with coverage around 10-20% there. Slightly higher moisture today is expected to lead to a greater area seeing isolated activity, but the key word remains isolated. Any rain will be brief, and most areas will remain dry. Afternoon highs will generally be in the low to mid 90s with overnight lows ranging from the mid 60s to around 70.

&&

.SHORT TERM... (Saturday through Sunday night) Issued at 132 AM EDT Fri Sep 19 2025

Mainly dry weather is expected to continue through the weekend. A slightly drier airmass on Saturday compared to today will likely confine the isolated mention of afternoon showers and thunderstorms to the seabreeze zone close to the coast. Elsewhere, PoPs look to be less than 20%. High temperatures will generally remain in the low to mid 90s with overnight lows in the mid 60s to near 70.

&&

.LONG TERM... (Monday through Thursday) Issued at 132 AM EDT Fri Sep 19 2025

There still does not appear to be a good signal for widespread rain through the middle of next week. Another weak upper level trough will move through from the west on Monday into Tuesday, but moisture return look anemic with only isolated coverage at best again. Eventually, a stronger upper level trough could begin to affect the area by the end of the week into next weekend, but the bulk of that is just beyond the 7 day period currently. At that range, confidence remains low. In the meantime, high temperatures next week are expected to be generally in the low 90s with overnight lows ranging from the mid 60s to low 70s.

&&

.AVIATION... (06Z TAFS) Issued at 132 AM EDT Fri Sep 19 2025

Patchy fog is possible around sunrise, mostly at ECP/ABY, but aside from that VFR conditions with light winds will prevail through the TAF period. Some showers are possible, along the seabreeze in Florida and across inland Georgia zones from 18-00z but confidence is too low to warrant mention in the TAFs for now.

&&

.MARINE... Issued at 132 AM EDT Fri Sep 19 2025

Mainly light winds and low seas are expected for the next several days during the afternoon hours with onshore flow along the coast in association with the seabreeze. Easterly wind surges are possible during the overnight and early morning hours this weekend, bringing winds occasionally around 15 knots.

&&

.FIRE WEATHER... Issued at 132 AM EDT Fri Sep 19 2025

Dry weather will continue for the next several days. While critical RH values and wind speeds are not expected, the continued dry weather and increasing drought conditions will keep fire concerns elevated. A seabreeze is expected near the coast this afternoon. Increasing dispersion values this weekend will also heighten concerns for any wildfires that occur.

&&

.HYDROLOGY... Issued at 132 AM EDT Fri Sep 19 2025

Although an isolated storm or two is possible today, there are no widespread rain chances in the forecast for the next several days. Drought concerns will continue to grow as the dry days continue.
