.DISCUSSION... Issued at 304 AM CDT Tue Sep 23 2025
The bulk of the forecast area remained quiet Monday night, although scattered showers and storms are still expected over most of the area through the day today. As of 2:45am, stratiform rain is slowly moving into southern parts of the area, with a few strengthening thunderstorms within it near I-70. This activity will continue to slide northeastward through sunrise, with additional thunderstorms are anticipated to develop further north near or shortly after sunrise. Some areas near/north of Highway 92 could remain dry through today, but the rest of the area is all likely (50-90% chance) to at least see some rain.
The threat for severe weather is low. Cloudy, cool conditions will keep instability rather limited, although synoptic forcing could help produce a few storms that are capable of producing small hail and localized gusty winds. Heavy rain could also lead to localized flooding, but this threat is pretty isolated. Many areas (especially I-80 northward) are favored to see rain in the 0.10-0.50" range, with only localized areas seeing 2-3" of additional rain.
As the upper trough shifts southeastward, we will see rain slowly end north to south...starting this afternoon and continuing through the overnight. A few showers could persist past sunrise on Wednesday in northern Kansas. Some CAMs also hint at very isolated diurnally-driven showers Wednesday afternoon. But other than these very low chances, dry conditions are expected for Wednesday. Clearing skies should allow temperatures to dip into the low 50s and possibly even upper 40s Wednesday night.
The rest of the week and weekend continues to look dry, with temperatures warming back into the upper 70s and 80s...a few degrees above normal for the end of September.

.AVIATION /12Z TAFS THROUGH 12Z WEDNESDAY/... Issued at 609 AM CDT Tue Sep 23 2025
For KGRI/KEAR Airports:
Showers and storms are starting to develop in central Nebraska, but it may be another 1-2 hours before EAR/GRI are impacted. Ceilings are expected to fall as showers move into the terminals as well. Conditions from mid-morning through mid-afternoon are favored to be mostly MVFR (except during heavier showers/t-storms). By early afternoon, the threat for thunder will start to subside, and by late afternoon all shower activity should push to the south. Skies will then gradually scatter out through tonight.
Winds today will be out of the northeast with gusts to around 20kts at times.
