...New AVIATION...

.NEAR TERM... (Today) Issued at 307 AM CDT Thu Sep 18 2025

A clear to mostly clear sky and a calm wind has led to radiation fog in some area river valleys this morning. The fog has become locally dense along the TN River in Jackson County. Expect patchy fog to continue to develop, especially in river valleys and in areas that received rainfall on Wednesday. The fog will dissipate by mid morning and expect a sunny and hot day otherwise with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s.

Previous Discussion... Issued at 1008 PM CDT Wed Sep 17 2025

An upper level system earlier moved southward across the Tennessee Valley. The passage of that system, with strong daytime heating and sufficient moisture and resultant instability produced showers and thunderstorm that affected some of the area. Some those storms were strong to severe, producing hail and damaging wind gusts. Remaining convection has for the most part moved well south of this area on a weakening trend. Mid evening temperatures have cooled into the upper 60s to lower 70s with light winds.

Weak high pressure over the Ohio Valley will otherwise help control the area`s sensible weather. A regional satellite view indicated clear skies to our north, which should continue as slightly drier air to our north filters southward. Low temperatures by daybreak Thursday should range in the 60s. The clear skies, light winds, and residual moisture from recent rainfall will set the stage for fog potentially becoming an issue as we go into the late night. MOS output showing fog formation to some extent, with some of potentially dense. We will keep a mention of this going for the late evening update.

Daytime heating and resultant mixing will help dissipate any fog that forms after sunrise. With slightly drier air more in place, a mostly sunny day is expected. Despite a weak NW flow, high temperatures should rise into the mid/upper 80s our higher terrain and eastern areas, with low/mid 90s over NW Alabama.

.SHORT TERM... (Thursday night through Saturday) Issued at 1008 PM CDT Wed Sep 17 2025

Dry conditions should continue Thursday night into Friday night with lows both nights in the low/mid 60s. Under mostly sunny skies, highs on Friday should rise into the upper 80s east to low/mid 90s west with light NE winds.

Another upper system this time nearing from the west will bring somewhat more upper support, and bring lower end chances of showers and thunderstorms on Saturday. The older model runs were limiting the showers over NW Alabama, but some of the newer intermediate guidance was suggesting somewhat more coverage. Despite more clouds and rain chances, high temperatures should rise into the upper 80s to lower 90s.

.LONG TERM... (Saturday night through Wednesday) Issued at 1008 PM CDT Wed Sep 17 2025

The longer term was suggesting that mean troughing should become established across the eastern half of the North American domain. In this pattern, the stronger dynamics and surface frontal boundaries will remain well to our north and west. Thus dry and unseasonably warm conditions should continue as we go into the next week. But as upper level systems begin to move closer, rain chances will return during portions of the new work week.

Low temperatures Saturday night again will be in the 60s. Highs temperatures Sunday (the last full day of summer) will feature highs from the mid 80s east to lower 90s west. Previously noted upper support should arrive and bring lower end rain chances on Monday. Monday which also the first day of Autumn (which begins around 119 PM). More unsettled weather is expected next Tue/Wed with low, daily chances of showers and thunderstorms mainly in the afternoon to early evening. Low temperatures should range in the 60s, and highs from the lower 80s east to upper 80s east.
