.DISCUSSION...through Tuesday.
Not much change to the forecast over the next 7 days. Dry, southwesterly flow holds through Thursday, keeping temperatures near seasonable values and precipitation chances below 10% areawide. On Friday, a stout and compact shortwave is expected to move through the region. Precipitation chances are largely confined to the Sierra and Great Basin where NBM PoPs are 25-50%. With snow levels around 9,500-10,000 feet, the Sierra crest will likely (60% chance) see 1-4" of snow with this system. Elsewhere, where precipitation falls, it will be in the form of light-to-moderate rain. Farther southeast, places that don`t see any precipitation will mainly have to contend with gusty winds. Widespread gusts of 25-40 mph are expected, with our typical southwesterly wind belt (western San Bernardino County to northeastern/central Mohave County) having 25-50% odds of exceeding 40 mph. Should trends continue, wind headlines may be warranted for these areas. By Saturday, the system will be off to our east, leaving drier and cooler conditions in its wake. Winds won`t be as strong as Friday, but may remain elevated as troughing lingers over the western US into next week.
