.DISCUSSION...
Tonight through Wednesday: High pressure will continue to build in through the next couple days. This will result in relatively benign weather, aside from a couple things. Clear skies and light winds tonight should allow temperatures to drop into the 30s and 40s. This morning some areas dropped below freezing, while others stayed rather mild under the stratus/fog. The stratus and fog is not expected to that abundant tonight, just patchy in the northeast valleys and near bodies of water. Models were not cold enough in the area that cooled off this morning, so I carried that into Tuesday morning. As a result some areas are expected to see some low to mid-30s, resulting in possible frost. A frost advisory was issued for Ferry, Stevens, Pend Oreille, Boundary and Bonner county, but the frost will be most found in the sheltered valleys. There could also be some frost over southern Spokane county into Benewah County, so keep an eye on that.
Otherwise the weather remains dry and temperatures warm above normal, with highs in the 70s and 80s. The warmest day is forecast to be Wednesday.
Thursday to Monday: shortwave troughs start to move inland and dampen the ridge. Initially they area still remains dry, with the brunt the moisture and energy staying north of the Canadian border. However the flattening flow, increasing west to east gradient will lead to increased winds for Thursday and Friday. The stronger winds are expected Thursday and combined with lower RH values, this will elevated fire weather concerns. Temperatures start to trend downward and moisture starts to increase a bit Friday, with clouds starting to enter the area too. So the elevated fire weather conditions start to back off on Friday. Saturday into Monday the moisture increases a bit more and more shortwave energy enters, stating to increase clouds more and start to bring slight shower chances. The first chances come to the Cascades later Saturday, then expand to the other mountain zones Sunday. It isn`t until late Sunday night into Monday that the rain shower chance expand out to the basin and valley zones. However, away from the Cascade crest, precipitation amount still look light. Temperatures will still be in the 70s to low 80s for highs.
Air quality: smoke from regional wildfires will continue to impact the air quality. The most robust smoke producer in our area remains the Sugarloaf and Labor Mountain Fires. Smoke models continue to show the near-surface smoke active through at least midweek. This makes sense give the milder temperatures and near Cascade thermal trough and steepening lapse rates in the afternoon. The WA Department of Air Quality continues to have an air quality alert until further notice and they will continue to assess things as the days progress. /Solveig

.AVIATION... 00Z TAFS: High pressure and drier air will bring generally VFR conditions. Low clouds and patchy fog will be possible over the NE WA and N ID valleys overnight into early Tuesday; however coverage is expected to be less than Monday morning. Some could be found near the rivers, including the vcnty of SFF/COE, but confidence is low. Wind will be light.
FORECAST CONFIDENCE AND/OR ALTERNATE SCENARIOS: High confidence in VFR through Tuesday. Low confidence in morning fog impacting SFF/COE. Low confidence of smoke reducing visibility below 6 miles for any of the TAF sites.
-----------------------
Confidence descriptors: Low - Less than a 30 percent chance Moderate - 30 to 70 percent chance High - Greater than a 70 percent chance
