.DISCUSSION... Issued at 1126 AM CDT Tue Sep 9 2025

A stationary front currently positioned from the Brainerd Lakes stretching northeast along the North Shore is leading to some low stratus and isolated showers. This will continue as the front slowly moves to the southeast for this afternoon through Wednesday. A rumble of thunder or two are also possible with the smallest amount of CAPE available to these showers. As the front moves away from the Northland, a high pressure is filling in behind with clearing skies. Tonight, lingering moist conditions from today`s rain may lead to more patchy dense fog, similar to what we saw this morning. The highest chances will be in areas that see skies clearing today and areas along Lake Superior. A dense fog advisory may be needed across much of the area and the nearshore waters tonight.

High pressure combined with an upper level ridge will settle in for the mid week, leading to quiet weather until Friday. Partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies are expected, and warming temperatures into the 70s each day.

Thursday night, the backside of the ridge will move over the Northland and the high will move off to the east. Warm air advection will lead to increasing chances for showers and storms for Friday. This flow will remain for the out of the south for the majority of the weekend, with several slight chances for rain showers and general thunderstorms. Though the greatest uncertainty is not necessarily whether showers will occur, but where. No severe weather is expected during the weekend.

Into next week, a small shortwave will move up the southwesterly flow, leading to more widespread chances for showers and storms. More details will be available as we move through the week.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z THURSDAY/... Issued at 1227 AM CDT Wed Sep 10 2025

Still some intermittent showers in the vicinity of HYR through roughly 07-08Z. Dense fog has already developed for much of central and northeast Minnesota and is expected to expand across much of the remainder of the area overnight, with INL perhaps being the one exception to avoid the dense fog for most of the night. However, some brief dense fog could develop there, as well. Expect LIFR to VLIFR conditions in the fog tonight into early/mid morning today before conditions start to improve with daytime sunlight eroding the fog and scattering out conditions back to VFR this afternoon. HYR/northwest Wisconsin could see MVFR ceilings hang around through much of today, though. Additional fog to dense fog development appears likely again tonight for a good portion of the area, though mostly looks to develop towards the very end or after the current TAF period.

Foggy conditions over Lake Superior continue. Fog is expected to slowly clear throughout the afternoon, but will likely return quickly this evening into the overnight hours. An additional dense fog advisory may be needed for much of the western Lake Superior near shore waters. Additionally, some scattered showers and an occasional storm are possible along the South Shore this afternoon.
