.DISCUSSION... Issued at 305 AM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025

Its a quiet weather pattern across the region this morning with weak surface high pressure in northeast New Mexico ridging its way northeast. Winds are light from the west. Aside from some mid clouds in northern Kansas, the sky was clear. Columbus is reporting some light fog (4 miles visibility) but NDOT cameras don`t show any fog in Columbus so it must be very spotty/shallow in nature.

Early today, we will be watching for any patchy, shallow ground fog in low lying areas for a couple hours around sunrise. The atmosphere is reasonably dry, and very light west wind doesn`t help, but recent wet conditions could lead to a bit of that fog.

Aside from that, skies will be mostly sunny today. There will be a high level haze with a general cover of smoke filtering its way southeast from the Pacific Northwest and Canada. Doubt that will impact temperatures, which were bumped up on the evening shift and we kept that slightly warmer trend going.

Looking at the rest of the forecast, that warmer trend will be the story deep into next with high temperatures generally in the 78-85 degree range daily, which is 5 to 8 degrees above normal at least. A weak trough will push across the area early Saturday shifting winds to the northwest and dragging a few clouds across the region but no precipitation. Look for slightly more wind from the south Monday through Wednesday but also plenty of sunshine each day.

The next chance for rain is just beyond this forecast cycle and could enter the picture as early as Thursday with some warm advection type showers. A better chance is expected later Friday/Saturday (October 3rd and 4th) with a cold front and upper trough passage potentially bringing a more widespread coverage of showers and isolated thunderstorms. Even with the potential frontal passage, there no signs of cold air or freeze conditions yet.

.AVIATION /06Z TAFS THROUGH 06Z FRIDAY/... Issued at 1211 AM CDT Thu Sep 25 2025

For KGRI/KEAR Airports:

VFR conditions are expected during the entire forecast period with a weak surface ridge keeping winds light. A thin veil of high level smoke will hang over the region today in an otherwise clear sky.

With the light winds and somewhat higher low level moisture for late September, a bit of shallow fog could develop around dawn in primarily low lying areas. Limited nature of the fog and general lower confidence of impacts precludes adding it to the forecast for the time being.
