.SYNOPSIS... High pressure building in from the north will bring cooler and drier weather to the area for the first half of the week. Mainly dry conditions will continue for the remainder of the week, with temperatures gradually warming as the week goes on.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/... Key Message(s):
- Cooler and drier air slowly moving into the area. - Breezy at times during the afternoon.
The cold front has moved well south of the area now, with a modified polar air mass moving in behind. The pressure gradient has tightened up nicely, with wind gusts in the mid teens already. Gusts should peak near or a bit above 20 knots during the late morning and early afternoon before the gradient starts slowly relaxing again. The northeasterly winds will support modest low level cold advection, with max temps this afternoon 5-10 degrees cooler than yesterday. Enough moisture should be around at mid levels to maintain partly cloudy skies into this evening.
&&
.SHORT TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/... Key message(s):
- Tuesday will likely be the coolest day of the week. Low threat for a passing shower or two along and east of I-95.
- Wednesday is slightly warmer but temperatures remain near to slightly below seasonal values.
Weak upper troughing will be in place to our west during the short term. At the surface, strong high pressure centered over New England will maintain northeasterly flow while an inverted trough keeps a moisture gradient across the coastal plain. A passing shower or two cannot be ruled out on Tuesday into Tuesday night, mainly along and east of I-95, when the PWAT gradient tries to push inland across the eastern Midlands. A strengthening wedge pattern pushes a reinforcing shot of drier air into the region on Wednesday with mostly sunny skies and slightly warmer, albeit near to slightly below normal, daytime temperatures.
&&
.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/... Key message(s):
- Continued dry with near normal temperatures through the period.
An upper trough remains positioned over the east coast through the long term. Meanwhile, surface high pressure maintains a northeasterly flow and dry weather with rain not expected through the weekend. Temperatures will be near seasonal values Thursday and Friday and may be slightly cooler during the weekend.
&&
.AVIATION /12Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/... VFR conditions will rule into tonight as any ceilings should be well above concern levels. Winds will be a bit gusty at times from the northeast, diminishing late today.
EXTENDED AVIATION OUTLOOK...A cooler and drier air mass will settle over the region early this week behind the front. Mainly VFR conditions expected.
