Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Huntsville AL 1139 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

...New AVIATION...

.NEAR TERM... (Tonight and Tuesday) Issued at 852 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

A wide range of temps can be found across the TN Valley as of 8 PM after a very pleasant day. Current temps range from the high 70s in urban areas to mid 60s in our terrain areas. Despite another night of mostly clear skies, temps will be a few degrees warmer than last night due to a slight increase in dew points. Winds again look to remain elevated enough to suppress fog formation.

Tomorrow, the pattern will remain largely unchanged with high pressure from the NE remaining dominant at the surface. This will amount to mostly clear skies, no rain chances, and slightly moderated highs in the low to mid 80s.

.SHORT TERM... (Wednesday through Friday) Issued at 852 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

Despite slight changes in the overall pattern, the surface conditions will remain largely unchanged through the short term forecast. Through the short term, several upper level shortwaves will ripple down from the Great Lakes through the TN Valley along the base of the larger long wave trough situated across the eastern CONUS. Aloft, this will only work to reinforce our dry airmass with NW flow being maintained. At the surface high pressure from the NE will continue its hold on us. High pressure seeping south will largely suppress moisture to the coastal areas keeping our dew points comfortably in the 50s and low 60s. Subsidence from surface high pressure will work to keep skies clear however under clear skies temps will embark upon a steady warming trend. Temps will warm from the 80s on Wednesday to low to mid 90s by Friday. The lower dew points will keep heat indices below any heat products however conditions will feel noticeable hotter than the start of the work week.

&&

.LONG TERM... (Friday night through Tuesday) Issued at 852 PM CDT Mon Sep 8 2025

From Friday through Sunday, mid level troughing will exit off the NE coast allowing mid level high pressure to push east into the TN Valley. By Monday high pressure will be aligned at the surface and aloft. Locally this will bring more of the same. Subsidence will promote clear skies, surface high pressure will keep high dew points refined to the coast, and our warming trend will continue. Temps will be in the low 90s at the start of the period warming to the mid 90s by the start of the work week. Fortunately NE surface flow will keep our dew points comfortably in the high 50s to low 60s limiting our humidity despite the heat.
